Starting from 2012, JAMB UTME is going to be Computer-Based!
In what seems to be an "about time" that JAMB took its cue from the numerous computer-based Post UTME examinations being conducted by Tertiary Institutions across the country, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde has confirmed authoritatively and through various interviews granted to the media that JAMB UTME is going to be Computer-Based starting from the 2012 examination! The overall long-term goal is to make the JAMB UTME become internet-based just like international examinations like the SAT and TOEFL. However, for logistic reasons and the fact that internet penetration and service level still leaves more to be desired in the country, the Board would commence with Computer-Based examination at computerized halls that have been established nationwide.
Some are already doubting the capacity and capability of JAMB to conduct Computer-Based Examinations nationwide by next year. However, one should understand that a tertiary institution like the University of Ilorin has already conducted Post UTME examination the CBT way with centers in Lagos and Ilorin and one or two more locations in the country. And that is just one institution. With the funding level of JAMB and the willingness of numerous private companies to partner in the delivery of test centers, the goal is not an impossible or improbable one for JAMB to achieve.
Some say how are public school students going to cope? Well, we should note that examination bodies in the country have no antecedents of with-holding such positive developments because of the lack of readiness of public school students or the less privileged. If such had been the case, the online examination registration and results-checking that have now become the hallmarks of practically every examination body in the country would still be in the idea stage!
Instead of contesting issues with JAMB, what sensible schools with foresight should be doing is preparing their students adequately for this new mode of examination. And sensible parents or guardians should be preparing their wards without waiting for some schools that may be dilly-dallying. Thankfully, EasiPREP provides a wide range of preparation options for the smart student, wise parent and sensible school. EasiPREP offers Online Internet-Based preparation, School Computer Lab-based preparation using the EasiPREP Network Edition software which doesn't require internet connection, Personal Computer/Laptop preparation with EasiPREP CBT software packaged in CD or download-able and Interactive Home DVD preparation using the EasiPREP DVD Edition that works most modern Home DVD Players! With EasiPREP, smart schools, parents and students are covered! Visit www.easiprep.com for more information.

NERDC Launches New Curriculum for Secondary Schools
I guess this is stale news for some already in the Secondary School space in Nigeria. However, for those who are just learning about it, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) had been working on phasing out the old school curriculum since 2008 and came out with a commendable result towards the end of 2009 for both the 9-Year Basic Education and a Revised Senior Secondary School curriculum.
The aim is to ensure that students have FUNCTIONAL education that has adequately taken into consideration current trends and happenings in the country and globally.
For the Revised Senior Secondary School curriculum which is to commence implementation in all secondary schools across the country from September 2011, highlights of it include the inclusion of Computer Studies as well as one Vocational Studies as compulsory subjects along with English Language and Mathematics.
In precise terms, the curriculum has five cross cutting core subjects, which include English Studies, General Mathematics, Entrepreneurial Trade subject, Computer Studies, and Civic Education. It also has four distinct fields of study as Senior Secondary Education Science, Humanities, Technology and Business with 34 Entrepreneurial Trades to provide required skills for job creation and poverty eradication.
The idea behind the recommendation is commendable because in this modern world, we have come to realize that one needs more than English Language and knowledge of Mathematics as compulsory skills to survive. To use the internet, computers and even some modern "smart-phones" now require a reasonable level of computer knowledge. And the world is evolving towards a point where to be "Computer-Illiterate" is to simply be Illiterate in all practical meanings and implications of the word!
Since the position and recommendations of the NERDC is backed by observable facts and events in the country and world wide, it is imperative for private and public secondary schools to commence the implementation of the new curriculum for the benefit of their students!
The new curriculum had been launched in March 2011 by the Federal Government through Minister of Education Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, thus giving schools adequate time to prepare for its implementation, moreover when it is to the benefits of the students.
But how do secondary schools in the country cope with this new and laudable development? For some, who have already the foresight of delivering qualitative and functional education in line with the dictates of the times, such is not a major problem as they've already envisaged or even commenced their own implementation prior to the NERDC recommendations. However, for some, it is an uphill task!
It is re-assuring to know that the NERDC thinks in the same direction as EasiPREP, where we are simplifying examination preparation with technology and encouraging students to adopt computing skills as a necessity for a bright future in the world of today and the future!

How EasiPREP Makes Examination Preparation Easy!
What or who is EasiPREP? Simply put, EasiPREP is examination preparations made easy. In many words, EasiPREP provides examination and test preparation services and solutions within a primarily internet and electronic based framework. The preparation services and solutions include internet-based and computer-based exam and test simulation solutions, remote English language essay and non-multiple choice theoretical questions analysis and grading services and interactive preparation forums and information exchange under the guidance of experienced examiners and teachers.
While a single page or double-page discourse may not completely do justice to the offerings from EasiPREP, two exciting features or possibilities immediately stand out. And these are the ease and convenience of use on one part, and the monitoring and feedback on the other part.
1. The Ease and Convenience
The internet and computers, which form the primary delivery framework for EasiPREP, are gradually, if not already, becoming common parts of our daily life even in developing worlds. They are becoming ubiquitous and available in private and public access flavours. It is thus not difficult to see how EasiPREP allows examination preparations to weave easily into your schedule in a modern and dynamic world whether you are a part-time student, full-time student or a full-time worker trying to prepare for post-graduate examinations or tests.
We are all aware of the hectic pace of modern living as well as the effect of moods on assimilation. Many times, it is often difficult to predict accurately when one would be in the right mood to study or do a little exam practice effectively. But what is exciting about EasiPREP is that it is available at all times and can be adapted to any study schedule.
You can walk into an internet cafe and do a little exam and test prep on the EasiPREP website, stay back after work to do a little prep on your office computer, sit leisurely at a park with your laptop to do a little prep or go into the school computer lab at break time for a little exam prep practice. The options are all yours.
2. The Monitoring and Feedback
Another exciting feature of EasiPREP is the ability to monitor the performance and progress of a student via performance reports and statistics that can be sent automatically by email or accessed on the EasiPREP website. For a parent, teacher, academic coach, tutor or even the student, this is simply fantastic. With detailed and timely performance reports and statistics, teachers and tutors can quickly identify a student's weak areas and focus more on them for improvement. With the hectic schedule of modern day living, being able to login on a website or receive email that allows you as a parent, to keep track of the academic performance of your children in test and exam practice is refreshing and a boost in the jungle of modern-day parental responsibilities.
Add to the mix, EasiPREP's interactive forum that allow students to ask questions and get academic assistance under the supervision of experienced examiners and teachers and the provided opportunities for teachers to track questions asked by their pupils, questions asked often and other statistics and you suddenly see why EasiPREP is an idea that its time has come.
From whatever angle one looks at it, there is no discounting the fact that EasiPREP brings refreshment and innovation to examination and test preparation in a way that has not been seen in a long time. It is a realization of modern technology to meet a burgeoning need without any attendant complexity to render it of limited use, costly or ineffective. It is simply, just as the slogan goes, exam preparations made easy!
